Summary of Events

Quest 2 – Stopping Shealis
The party arrives at Gabals school and finds an angry mob of humans at front gate.  Gabal has gone into hiding, and the mob is livid about this fact.   A lone student stands behind the locked gates of the school and tries to calm the mob.  The party assists in cooling the goodfolk’s tempers and once the mob disperses they meet the student, Diogenes, who is a sarcastic enchanter.
Diogenes invites the party in and takes them to the school’s kitchen.  Over tea and free reign of the pantry, the party tells Diogenes of their mission.  Diogenes relates that Shealis has guests, an elf and a archon arrived yesterday, and it appears Shealis is preparing to leave the school for a long trip.  Diogenes’ disgust with Shealis is no secret and he wishes to best Shealis in a  Spellduel.
The party and Diogenes decide that the best plan of action is to have Diogenes challenge Shealis in a Spellduel and when she leaves her apartment, the party will search her domicile for the case.

Act 2, Scene 7 – The Force is with You
Once Shealis is out of her apartment, the party moves in and finds the Lantern Archon and Larion waiting for Shealis’ return.  Grimsley summons fiendish dogs, who appear in a ball of fire, a sign that the Teleportation problem has become worse.  A static slug fest ensues, with Grimsley’s summoned dogs pinning the archon in a corner and Finn blocking the elf in the bedroom.
Once the elf and archon are dispatched, the party finds a map and a note within Shealis’ Spellbook.  The map highlights a carpenter’s shop within one of Gate Pass’ many Elvish Ghettos, and the note in elvish reads, "Nirvana before Elysium before Heaven.".

Act 2, Scene 8 – Elvish Ghetto Hideout
The map leads the party to a secret entrance of an Elvish Ghetto, however it does not state exactly where the carpenters shop location is.  Havak notices a rat acting oddly in an alley.  Havak believes he sees the rat’s tongue, more serpent like than expected, stick out and smell the air.  The half-orc looses an arrow, only to miss and cause the varmint to scurry into hiding.
Grimsley shows one of the many elvish children playing in the street his familiar, Templeton, and asks of the location of the shop.  The child gladly points it out, a two story wooden building with a facade of a front door and windows, painted to look real.  A chimney billows smoke though, leading the party to believe someone is home.
Searching for the true entrance to the shop, the party finds itself in the rear alley of the building.  A quick search reveals a secret door, plus three switches, that can turn, hidden in a carving of various celestials.   Grimsley uses his knowledge of the planes and determines the cryptic phrase found on Shealis’ note is the key to getting the door open.  The alignment of the planes corresponds with the alignment of the Celestials, and thus tells the user which order the switches are to be turned.
Before the switches can be turned, the party hears a "Psst, over here," come from an invisible source.  The invisible source warns the party of the  trap they are about spring, and offers his assistance in exchange for the case.  The invisible source says he was tasked by the Ragesians in retrieving the case, and not it’s contents.
The party agrees to the invisible source’s terms and a moment later a young elf girl arrives talking with its guardian angel.  The guardian angel asks the girl to turn the switches, but before she does, the party comes out of hiding stopping her.  Appalled by the invisible sources actions, Coster decides to turn the switches as planned.  The party was correct in the fact that the corresponding alignments of the planes match the alignments of the  celestials and thus tells the order in which the switches are to be turned.  The door opens without incident.

Act 2, Scene 9 – Spies Headquarters
The party rushes through the secret door into the carpenter’s shop and is attacked by celestial badgers.  Shahalesti warriors rush down the stairs and fire a barrage of arrows down upon the party.  The party prevails and after a search of the premises finds the case.  The invisible source reveals its true form, a devilish imp, and claims the case.  The party takes the case’s contents,  which is a book written in Infernal.
With the ‘vital military intelligence in hand, it is time to leave Gate Pass and travel to the mage’s school in Lyceum.  Torrent presses the party on a decision to be made on how to best accomplish this.  The party agrees that after a day of preparation for their journey and rest, they will follow up on the rumor that Councilman Menash is sympathetic to adventurers.  If this is true, the councilman may be able to assist the party in leaving Gate pass.

With the plan in place, Diogenes challenges Shealis in a Spellduel.

A few minutes pass as the party waits for the plan to transpire. Soon, the footsteps of a pair of humanoids can be heard in the main hall. A quick peek through the kitchen door reveals Diogenes walking with a blond elf woman whose blue eyes flicker like shining sapphires, and her pale skin glows like snow. She wears concealing red robes, but the metallic gleam of chainmail peeks out from her collar. Her gloves shine like silver. They casually make their way for the front doors of the dormitory.

Once they exit, the party waiting in the kitchen heads for the stairs of the building, making their way to the third floor. A rigorous climb of the steep steps quickly gives the party access the third floor hallway. Six doors can be seen lining the hall.

Quest 2 - Stopping Shealis
The heroes finally reach Gabal's School and understand why it is nicknamed "the Castle"

Moving quickly through the slackening snowfall, the shadowy school comes into clearer view, and you come to understand why it is nicknamed the Castle. A small bridge crosses a moat. An iron fence surrounds the campus, which consists of a few small buildings and two fifty-foot towers. Even in the dim pre-dawn, the castle-like appearance is unmistakable.

As the light increases, you see the Ragesian bombs have not been kind; one tower is cracked and multiple craters dot the yard and surrounding area. An inch of snow covers the corpse of a griffon and its rider floats in the moat.

As dawn arrives a few people gather at the gate. They talk loudly to each other about the invasion and the evils of magic. Within the hour, over forty angry people, all of them unfriendly to the school, its students and anyone else who practices magic, surround the front gate.

A human man with a paunch, a prematurely receding hairline, wearing a blue-robe, strolls out to the front gates and tries to be diplomatic, making it clear that he also thinks Gabal is a coward. He is fast-talking and smooth, and claims that the reason he and the other students are staying in the compound is so that the Inquisitors will have an easier time finding them. Slightly balding and laid back, he is as unhostile as anyone you could imagine, and the mob calms down slightly.

With the heroes having just defeated the White Wyrm terrorist cell, They carry the cache of notes and messages sealed with a mysterious letter "M" back to Gate Pass Resistance Leader, Buron Watcher.

As the heroes return to the safe house in early afternoon, a steady snowfall has begun. Its seems much colder this time of year than normal and the frigid weather causes the group to pause at burning piles of debris to warm. The remaining temple guard has convinced the heroes to carry back their dead, with hopes of a proper burial.

After arriving at the safe house the heroes see that the temple is still busy. Good folk pile in the main temple area with the little belongings they still own. The people’s hopes still seem grim and their are whispers of the leaders of Gate Pass allowing a group of Inquisitors into the city in exchange for the siege to end.

Torrent is still gone, Rivereye is recuperating, and Buron seems busy with other matters. It appears that the only thing left to do is wait.

  • New d20Pro configuration seems to work well at home IP.
  • Problems with movement during combat maybe caused by depressing Ctrl key while moving. d20Pro uses the Ctrl key as a ‘Dupe Move’. , The Ctrl key may also be Vent’s Hot Key for broadcasting depending on local settings,.
    • A possible solution may be to use Left Alt for Vent’s broadcasting Hot Key, or to simply not depress Ctrl key when moving in d20Pro.

Torrent guides the party to a nearby temple of the Order of the Aquiline Cross, devoted to Sarenrae.

Torrent leads the party to a nearby temple of Sarenae. The main structure is an open-air building with no ceiling making it open to the sky. Behind an altar within its center is a large limestone statue depicting a strong woman with a mane of dancing flame. While one hand holds the light of the sun, the other grasps a scimitar, so that she might smite those who do not change their ways. Large golden mirrors, some shattered from the Ragesian bombs, set on high points on the structure to reflect more light toward the altar.

Several out buildings radiate from the main structure, most of which are smaller versions of the main, although these have ceilings. One such structure is completely enclosed and flanking its main entrance are two red tabards marked with a cross surrounded by a halo of feathers. It is this building to which the heroes are led.

The temple is packed with at least a hundred nervous people, all squeezed into a 40-foot circular prayer chamber and adjacent rooms. Many are nervously relating rumors of how the battle at the main gates is going. Children cry, and priests tend to numerous injuries from fire, stampeding crowds, or violent looters. People are scared and demoralized. Priests go between the wounded, tending them as best they can, their healing capability all expended.

The safe house is only a few blocks away, and by this point most people have cleared the streets and have taken shelter. The bombing has ended for now, but a dramatic aerial battle occurs overhead.

The streets are nearly empty, as most of the citizens have found shelter. The night is cold and the sky glows from the many fires still raging throughout the city. But all is not quiet. High above, the screech and roar of battle fills the air as the Gate Pass griffon riders clash with Ragesian wyverns.

Looking up after a particularly loud screech, you see the shape of a bat-winged creature collide with a griffon rider. Both combatants flip from the impact, nearly throwing their riders off as they begin a fast descent towards the ground below. You can hear the sound of their collision. Somehow the griffon rider recovers himself and turns west towards the main battle, but the other creature, still screeching, plummets into the roof of a low building directly in front of your path.

Instantly the din of battle is replaced with the clatter of falling timber and tile. For a few seconds an eerie calm surrounds the building. Then a woman’s bloodcurdling scream echoes down the street and is suddenly stopped. The cry of a child starts as well, and continues.

With the real Rivereye found, he gives the skinny on how the case fell into the hands of the Shahalesti.

“With the upper floor of the Depository Tower cleared of guards, Rivereye begins to tell the adventurers of what occured earlier at the tower. Several Shahalesti spies, accompanied by a loyal lantern archon ambushed Rivereye and took the case. Rivereye managed to convince the lead elf, known as Larion, that the case was trapped to explode if it was opened, and that only his contact Peppin knew the password. Larion sent the case with two Shahalesti soldiers and then knocked Rivereye out. The next thing Rivereye remembers is being untied by Havak.
